If you take one lesson from this story, I
hope it is learning that success does not come without, obstacle, failure and
rejection, a dream without work is simply a wish. In times of adversity trust
yourself and believe in your gift, it is the best way to reap your own rewards.
In life we all are blessed with a gift, a craft that is uniquely ours. Sometimes we do not spend the time to identify and perfect our craft. Often times after a few
bad reviews we start to doubt our talent. You must have persistence and
endurance to believe in your gift, even if others do not validate it or see it.
It is important to put in the work if you want the rewards. A lot of people
talk a good game, I am going to do this and I am going to do that, but never
follow through on their word. Anyone in life that is successful most times have invested
themselves and put in the work and they have gotten their reward.
I
chose Shonda Rhimes as my girl on fire because her story was simple but excellent. It is a story of dedication,
persistence and endurance. It reminds me of the saying that the race is not for the swift neither is
the battle for the strong but for those who can endure to the end. Before
Shonda became the ruler of night time television she was like any other
educated unemployed person in America
trying to make ends meet at home. Despite her circumstances, Shonda decided
that her story was going to be different. While unemployed at home Shonda began
writing scripts. Shonda did not know if anyone would ever see them or if she
would ever get the opportunity to work in her field, she only knew that one day
her dedication would payoff. While many of her friends where out socializing she
sat at home and perfected her craft. It
takes courage, dedication and drive to believe in your vision. Shonda Rhimes
dreamt of being a writer since she was child, she could have given up on her
dream in times of adversity. She persevered and now she has an AMAZING STORY of
success.
Black Excellence Ms. Shonda Rhimes
In
May 2007, this woman was named one of Time Magazine’s 100 people that help to
shape the world. A woman that wears many hats she is best known as an American
Screenwriter, director and producer. For over more than a decade Shonda Rhimes
has been the boss of late night drama on Television. Shonda is well known for
her brilliant storylines and great writing.
She was the main writer of the film “Introducing Dorothy Dandridge”
starring Halle Berry. Ms. Rhimes is also the mastermind
behind the medical drama Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice. In recent times
she has become most popular for her latest masterpiece the TV hit drama series Scandal.
Shonda’s writing is witty and immaculate and keeps the viewers on their toes
every week. It is by far one of the best drama series on television. Scandal
racks in millions of viewers every week and is always trending worldwide on social
media networks.
Rhimes attended Marian Catholic High School, before
enrolling at Dartmouth College where she earned her
Bachelor's Degree. At Dartmouth,
she divided her time between fiction and directing and performing in plays.
After college, she relocated to San
Francisco with an older sibling and obtained a job in
advertising. Rhimes would later relocate to Los Angeles to attend University of Southern California
to study screenwriting. Rhimes was ranked at the top of her class and earned
the prestigious Gary Rosenberg Writing Fellowship Award. Rhimes earned a Master of
Fine Arts from the University of Southern California's
School of Cinema Television.
Shonda Rhimes explains her success as simply years of perfecting her craft and believing
in her dreams. I believe Shonda Rhimes proves that achieving greatness is not a
formula only some can find, it is in the path of everyone to pursue. Greatness
is a practice, a lifestyle, it is pursuing what you want all day, everyday even
when others believe it is pointless. Greatness is falling but getting back up
from every fall.
P.S.
